Making Space
Why is it so hard to make space for the things that matter most?
I think it’s in part because, deep down, we know how much good those things will do for us.
We know they might open a door that we can step through, into a life where we are fully us—fully seen, fully known.
We may not make the space for this because we’re afraid. Some part of us knows that, in many ways, “failing” feels much safer than success.
We’re wired to stay safe—don’t go opening, much less walking through, open doors.
We can stay hidden behind a story about “failure.”
Success, on the other hand, is vulnerable. “What comes up must come down,” Icarus flying too close to the sun, we’re afraid of our own greatness.
But something deep within us keeps on calling.
It may get muffled, but that call is never going to stop.
What would happen if the door was opened wide and we were to step through?
Making space, slowing down, coming together with others, being present—the things we never seem to have time for, yet would change our entire life… the things the holidays are supposed to be all about… these are the things that open that door.
